MIVO® Multi-Organ Cancer-Liver-on-Chip for Simultaneous Tox-Efficacy Assay
In this study a multi-organ-on-chip MIVO® based solution was introduced to fluidically connect ovarian cancer and liver models and evaluate the cellular response to systemic anticancer drug administration.
Dose-response studies in both 2D and 3D cellular models were performed, followed by cytotoxicity assays in static and fluid-dynamic setups, including single-organ and multi-organ configurations. A dose-dependent reduction in cell viability was observed in both cancer and liver cellular models.
Furthermore, under static conditions 3D ovarian cancer models exhibited greater drug resistance than 2D models. Importantly, the combination of 3D culture, fluid-dynamic environment, and multi-organ integration proved to be the most reliable in predicting clinical toxicity and efficacy.
The approach bridges the gap between preclinical assays and clinical outcomes, offering a cutting-edge, ethical alternative for oncology drug testing.
