A multi-organ on chip platform for exploring gut-skin axis and microbiota dysbiosis effects in skin disorders

We developed an innovative in vitro model to simulate the gut-skin axis using a millifluidic platform. The model fluidically connects a co-culture of human intestinal cells (CaCo-2/HT-29) with a three-dimensional skin model.

Skin model was subject to dehydratation, to mimic symptoms of skin aging. Probiotic treatments were administered to the gut to study how they could influence skin health, in a physiological environemnt.
