Q – What is included in the MIVO® Starting Kit?

A – The starting kit contains 3 MIVO® chambers, 3 tips and 1 plate

Q – What is included in the single-flow box?

A – The bulk box contains 12 MIVO chambers, 12 tips

Q – Does the bulk box contains the plate to hold the receivers?

A – No, it doesn’t. It has 12 disposable chambers, since you may use the plate (reusable) of the starting kit. Of course, If you will use directly the bulk box, we may provide a plate as well.

Q – How many chambers host the plate?

A – Three

Q – Which are the differences between the single-flow box and the double-flow box?

A – The single flow box contains 12 closed lips, like those of the Petri dish, while the double flow box contains 12 tubes lips for a second circulation.

Q – What is included in the double-flow box?

A – The bulk box contains 12 MIVO chambers, 12 tips with their tubes

ABOUT MIVO® TECHNOLOGY

Q – How does MIVO work?

A – Together with your order, you will receive a training video explaining the use of the MIVO, the loading of the culture media, its sampling, etc.

Q – How is sterility maintained?

A – the MIVO is already sterile and sold in single use blisters

Q – Which membrane is there in the MIVO chamber?

A – MIVO is typically sold without any membrane, since the end-user may decide to use the membrane preferred among Corning transwell, Falcon transwell, 3D tissue inserts, etc. In case it is appreciated, we may insert in the quotation also the membranes to combine in one order everything.

Q – What types of commercial inserts are compatible with the MIVO chambers?

A – To our knowledge Alcyomics, Cellsystem, Corning, Falcon, Mattek, Millipore.

Q – Is the trans-well a clickable insert, or a fixed insert?

A – MIVO chamber can be used with all type of inserts. Also the pore size and material of the transwell is a choice of the end-user. The insert is just placed inside the chamber without any external fixing. At the end of the experiment, the transwell can be easily recovered for further analysis.

Q – Which is the size of the hosted inserts?

A – the 24-well plate size inserts.

Q – What is the material of the MIVO and tubing

A – It is a secret information, but we can say that they are not PDMS, and that they are FDA and USB class VI compliant, and DEHP free. We have tested different molecules absortions with great results of absorption (i.s. no absorption).

Q – Does the lid allow sterile gas exchange?

A – Yes, the MIVO lip works similarly to the lid of a Petri dish: the gas exchange happens in a sterile way.

Q – What other types of materials are required (e.g. tubing, pumps)?

A – MIVO chamber is already connected with tubes. The user has to connect the MIVO device with the own peristaltic pump tubes ending with male/female luer-locks. The inner diameter of the peristaltic pump tube depends on the flow rate required, but our team will give support to setup the pump. Regarding the pump, if the experiment is long-term experiment that requires to place MIVO within the incubator, you have to work with either peristaltic pump supporting humidity and 37°C environment or syringe pumps.

Q- Shall I culture organoids within MIVO?

A – Yes, spheroids, organoids or 3D scaffolds having different size and shape can be hosted within the MIVO under dynamic flow perfusion 

Q – How do we keep the chambers upright in an incubator?

A – In the incubator, you will have the MIVO chambers properly fixed on their plate and fluidically connected with the pump thanks to the tubes stopper of the plate.

Q – How easy is it to insert our own membrane within the MIVO?

A – When you will start the experiment, you will open the sterile blister containing the MIVO chamber and then place your membrane (transwell ,3D reconstructed tissue, or sterile membrane) directly within the MIVO chamber with a tweezer; the inner chamber has proper steps so that the membrane remains flat and stable; then you will open the blister containing the sterile tip and you will close the chamber.

Q – How can we sterilize the MIVO after the membrane insertion?

A – You don’t have to sterilize anything since you will place your sterile membrane directly within the sterile MIVO chamber under the biological hood.

Q – Can you provide details of how we can incorporate an electro-spun membrane?

A – We have realized an add-on of the MIVO for placing a membrane within the chamber and avoid any type of fluid leakage. These add-ons can be used for biopsies, commercial membranes like Merck StratM or electro-spun membranes.

Q – Can I place the MIVO into the incubator?

A – Yes. the MIVO chambers can be easily move into the incubator, since they are blocked on their tray. The tubes are also blocked on the tray with stoppers.

Q – Is it optically transparent and usable under optical microscope?

A – The material of the MIVO is optically transparent and the lower window thickness allows to observe the cells cultured within MIVO under standard inverted microscope.

Q – Does the starting box contain protocols for seeding cells, and information on flow?
